another year gone!

Wow where has the year gone? really is just flew by!

Many New Year's Resolutions but the one that comes to mind is the No Fabric or Yarn purchases will be made in 2010! my friend came over to get me orgainzed for the new year and needless to say there has to be a round two! not all could be done in one day! I also have over 1500 zippers~ but in my defense I got a great deal! What to do with all those zippers!

This Christmas I wrapped all the gifts in paper that I got when I received a package~ then I stamped the presents with a star stamp I carved. It turned out better than I was intinally thinking when I sat down to wrap everything I thought for sure it was going to be a getto Christmas! Here's some pictures but they might be a bit dark~ taken with my phone!.

I also had this idea to make some brooch flowers from newspaper~ seemed like it was all going to work out in my head but was more of a challenge than I thought. I ended up putting resin all over the flower for stability. In the center is a bottle cap (used of course). I need to try it again things never turn out exactly how I envision the first time I should know this by now!

Tonight I whipped up some cobra bracelets, making boiled peanuts and making a list of projects that are in my mind~ must get them out before I forget about them!

Happy New Year!

I hate spending money on gift tags they seem to be so expensive for what they r so here's my last minute idea. I have this puncher that looks like a little frame so I just grabbed some junk mail & went to town but they seemed a little bland so I added the dots to funk it up~ whoot whoot!

Album Jewelry

Everyone seems to be doing it so of course I have to try it too~ reminds me I bought some oven gloves but I'm not sure what I did with them.. Hmm.....

So they say to put the album in the oven and depending on the year of the album matters to but see I forgot what year that was by the time I got to the melting part so I think mine came out pretty cool and don't look like an album at all which for most is the point to look like a record but that seems to be how I work!

Paper Wristlets

A bit ago I got a request on my etsy site to make a wristlet out of taco bell items! this was a challenge since the wrappers were paper and they only had one style plastic bag~not to mention I didn't care for taco bell all that much but seems I was just fooling myself! so I figured out a way to water proof the paper and whipped it up in less than a week from the request~Now I have a whole new world open up to me not just upcycling plastic but now paper trash! Here are two new versions a Long John Silver's wristlet and a Happy meal Wristlet! Both are lined with Eco Felt which is felt made from plastic bottles, you can find it over at Felt o Rama.

Meat Tray Garland How To!

I wasn't the one to come up with this but I saw a picture of it somewhere but not sure where to give credit were credit is due so sorry about that~ It was just a picture not a how to if that means anything!

What to do with those handy little meat trays? you could use them for paints but I don't paint very often and they just seem like they could have some other helpful use besides holding Meat but I have yet to find one until now! MEAT TRAY GARLAND!! I believe garland is not just for the holidays but to make every day a festive day!

1)Gather your meat trays ~ they do come in an array of colors but I used white for my first go at it.
2)Now tear the tray up in to pieces, no need to be perfect just tear away, I used 3 meat trays for this one and it fit across my front 2 windows.
3)Now that you have all these pieces floating around time to wrangle them in! thread a sewing needle and start threading the pieces on.

4) once you have them all threaded on you could stop and be done but I wanted mine to have some sparkle so I sprayed the garland with acrylic spray and sprinkled with glass glitter~ I then coated with acrylic again to make sure the glass glitter stuck and was sealed on!

Ta-Da~~

You can use egg cartons, lg McDonald's cups are Styrofoam, etc..

Afghan Completed

I finished an Afghan this weekend~ my daughter wanted to use it before it was finished so that inspired me to hurry up and finish it so I could cover her up with it while she was sleeping! it turned out so cute. I like this pattern because it's quick and thick, it uses that big chunky yarn. It takes 7 skeins and you can get them on sale for $5 so it only cost $35! here's the link for the free pattern;

My daughter and I did some needle felting this weekend~ she's only 11 but good at it and hasn't injured herself to badly yet! I was making felted Mushrooms and she was working on a blueberry but when I got up the next morning the Blueberry was not yet done but this was waiting for me! she made me an egg for breakfast! She sure is a crafty one!

Boo

I found this free Ghost pattern on Lionbrand.com and it whips up quickly! I think next year I will make a bunch of them and hang them from the ceiling! Then I whipped up this cute pumpkin! it was a bit hard to pull the yarn to make the valley's ~ so mine is a bit off kilter but still cute enough for my daughter to want to bring it to school and show off! you can find the pattern here www.Pepperberry.etsy.com
Halloween is upon us and tomorrow brings drinking woodchuck in my neighbor's driveway and passing out candy! I think I will bring some harder stuff so we can make "duck Fart" shots! Crown, kahlua & Bailey's.

Plastic House

I taught at ArtFiberFest back in June, sadly it was the last year it will be hosted BUT I also took a class with Charlotte Lyons (here's her blog http://housewrenstudio.typepad.com/ ) we made houses out of felt ~ we had so much fun chatting and sewing~ It was a great day! She inspired me to make a "Plastic House" I think it could use a bottle cap fence but I'm working on it~ not enough time in the day for all my ideas dammit!

Plastic Bottle Rings

So I am always trying to think of things to make from the blue bin~ I already make bracelets from plastic bottles but why not give a whirl at making some plastic bottle rings? Here's a few that I came up with. Let me know what you think!
Just incase you haven't seen my bracelet's here's one it can be found on my etsy site for sale www.RadicalRecycks.etsy.com.

Recycling Madness

The picture below was from Dollywood! they have these throughout the park how cool is that! While in Tennessee I found the sign that was a local Recycling drop off so we went of course~ I usually get my way but there is grumbling that I have to put up with!

There's a new country song out by Trace Adkins called " every light in the house is on" and when I first hear it my hubby looked at me and said "I bet it's driving you crazy that he is leaving every light in the house on isn't it?" and of course it was! what in the devil~ the girl will come home when she's ready just leave the flipp'n porch light on dummy! There is also another on that drives me insane and I didn't make my feelings know about that one either hubby brought it up! it's by Alan Jackson called "drive" here's the part that drives me crazy "He'd let me drive her when we haul off a load Down a dirt strip where we'd dump trash off of Thickpen Road" why in the hell are you dumping trash on the side of the road????

While on vacation all I could notice was all the trash that people throw where ever they please! in our cabin in the woods you would look down at the trees and see trash scattered down there~ that to me is a scene killer! I can only pick up what is around me and have to remember I can't save the world single handedly! but I sure can try!

Disney goes down!

I have a girl in my Girl Scout troop that's mom is totally obsessed with Disney~ now I know I get that magical feeling when I there but once I'm gone the feeling is gone~ but to each their own. While at camp I notice she had this big plastic Disney bag. So I asked her what she was going to do with it? she said "keep it for every duh!" so I let her know that if she every wanted to ditch them or they broke that I wanted them~ they are very colorful ya know! She also let me know that she has a billizon of them at home. So one evening she came over and said she had been thinking a lot about what I said and she gave me a ton of bags. Now they were so nice and neatly folded and there were a lot and she said that she had so many that she just needed to let go of some of them. I tried to tell here what I had in store for them but it was to much for her to hear! Here's some pictures of their demise and what they turned into!

These are the bags now wait for it.............

Mickey is shrunk and ready to be made into something Fabulous! (haven't made him into anything yet but here is another one)

Finding Nemo on ice anyone?? me either but the hat sure is cute! it's at my etsy store for the taking!
